REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – What a change of fortune for a Virginia Pinoy who says he now regrets winning the lottery because he says it led to the end of his marriage and the two-year jail sentence he is currently serving.
52-year-old Romeo Silerio got lucky 22 years ago when he won $6.9 million in the Virginia state lottery.
But in a story by The Virginian Pilot, the former warehouse worker’s luck reportedly ran out following a divorce from his wife that split up the winnings and set spousal and child support for their three kids.
In August, Silerio entered two pleas of no contest for failing to pay his ex-wife more than $250,000 in child and spousal support.
His scheduled release date is August 2016. Silerio doesn’t know what he will do after that because now he is dead broke.
