LOS ANGELES – June 19 marks the birthday of one of the most important figures in Philippine history.

Community members marked the 153rd birthday of national hero Dr. Jose P Rizal with a wreath laying ceremony at the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) this morning.

Community members marked the writer and freedom fighter’s birth with a day-long celebration, highlighting filipino culture and Rizal’s works.

The Laguna-born novelist was executed at age 35 for his role in the revolution against Spanish rule.
