LOCK-DOWN ALERTS LIFTED FROM 3 BAY AREA SCHOOLS

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Three San Francisco Bay area schools were taken out of lock-down mode because police think a student who reported seeing an armed man was lying.

The city of Sunnyvale said Friday that authorities had stopped searching for a possible suspect after two hours because new information suggested the information that prompted the search had been fabricated.

Local authorities reportedly said the student who initially reported seeing an armed man on campus rescinded his initial claim.

Three Sunnyvale schools – West Valley Elementary School, Cupertino Middle School and Homestead High
School were put on lockdown following the student’s report of spotting a man with a revolver near the middle school.

Students were required to stay inside the elementary and high school as a precaution.

Schools around the nation have been taking extra precautions to safeguard students since 20 elementary school children were shot to death in Newtown, Conn. last month.
