In Los Angeles, the ouster of Chief Justice Sereno remains a hot topic and for the past weeks. A women’s rights activist and attorney has been giving her take on this case in the US.
Filipino lawyer and activist Virgie Suarez is on a US tour to bring up the issue of women’s rights in the Philippines.
At the same time, Suarez she’s been sharing the story of her high profile case — the 2014 murder of transgender woman Jennifer Laude. She is also been holding forums on the recent ouster of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Sereno was voted out of the Philippine Supreme Court for allegedly failing to disclose her statements of assets liabilities and net worth.
Just as Sereno has done, Suarez has been blaming President Rodrigo Duterte for the ouster, which she says is a step back for women’s empowerment.
