Lawmakers are back in session to tackle the impeachment inquiry into Trump

After a two week recess, both the House of Representatives and the Senate returned to session on Tuesday afternoon.

Political analysts are expecting that the impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump is about to get into high gear with lawmakers flooding back into Capitol Hill, talking about what lawmakers probably heard from their constituents about their stand on impeachment.

Three weeks into the inquiry led by the House intelligence committee, the public had only seen parades of officials going into closed-door hearings and depositions.

So far most Republican lawmakers have not endorsed the House impeachment inquiry, but they have not defended Trump either except for a few vocal Trump allies.

The impeachment inquiry is not the only pressure mounting against the president. Many Republicans have joined Democrats in a chorus of outrage over trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces from northeast Syria, which they said puts national security at risk — talking about what kind of pressure Republicans have on the president on this issue.

This week, at least four former and current Trump administration officials are testifying in front of lawmakers, not to mention deadlines on subpoenas on a number of current and former Trump officials.

So far, Democrats have had the most success with career administration officials. But former European union ambassador Gordon Sondland’s testimony on Thursday is what everyone is waiting for, since the Trump administration initially blocked him from appearing.

According to reports, Sondland is expected to say that his text message reassuring another envoy that there was no quid pro quo in their interactions with Ukraine was based on a phone call he had with the president.
