Lawmakers, immigration advocates protest “inhumane” treatment of migrants at border camps

Overcrowded, unsanitary, inhumane — these are some words immigrant advocates use to describe conditions inside the detention facilities used to house thousands of immigrants, including children, who have been apprehended at the U.S. border with Mexico as they were attempting to enter the country.

Responding to demands for a more humane approach to handling the situation at the border — a movement to close the so-called “camps” has emerged, with protests being staged today throughout the country.
