OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines – The family of slain transgender woman Jennifer Laude wasn’t able to come aboard the U.S.S. Pepeliu, where U.S. Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton was previously held.

But on Wednesday, the Laude family showed up at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, determined to confront the American suspect.

“Can I ask you a question?” asked Laude’s fiancée. “Can I ask you a question? I traveled 10,000 miles to ask you a question.”

“Pilipino ba kayo? Ilabas niyo siya,” said Laude’s mother.

Both the military and media were surprised by what happened next.

Laude’s sister Marilou suddenly climbed over the fence of the Jusmag Compound, followed by Luade’s German fiancé, Marc Suselbeck.

Marilou and Suselbeck were just several meters away from the container van where Pemberton is said to be detained.

From the U.S.S. Peleliu, two helicopters brought the American soldier to camp Aguinaldo.

Journalists weren’t allowed to take videos of his arrival up close. He could only be seen from afar, being brought to his detention facility wearing a helmet and handcuffs.

A military source says Pemberton is concealing his face now as a defense move once a case is filed in court.

The container van where he’s now staying is air-conditioned with one bed. Several of Pemberton’s fellow U.S. Marines are guarding him.

Even though Pemberton is at Camp Aguinaldo, he remains under U.S. custody, according to the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

Outside the compound, Laude’s mother Julita shouted repeatedly, demanding that the American soldier come face to face with them.

“Gusto lang kitang makausap bakita nagawa mo ito sa anak ko,” shouted Laude’s mother.

After a few minutes, A.F.P. Public Affairs Office Chief, Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, arrived at the compound.

“Ito po ay military camp,” said Cabunoc. “Trespassing po ang ginawa nila. Pwede po silang makulong dahil dito sino po pwedeng pumayag na makapasok sila? Syempre ang America kasi nasa kanila ang custody.”

“Excuse me, bakit ako magpapaalam sa Amerikano? Pilipinas ito,” said Harry Roque, lawyer of the Laude family.

Shortly after, the commander of Camp Aguinaldo also arrived and berated the media.

“Alam niyo naman na hanggang grandstand lang kayo diba,” said Brig. General Author Ang, Camp Commander of Camp Aguinaldo. “Pwede bang lumabas kayo?”

Following the commotion, the A.F.P sent civil disturbance management units to keep non-military personnel out of the area.

Marilou’s intention of jumping over the fence is not confront Pemberton about her sister’s death . .. But to collect the payment of the services she did that night .
