REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Jennifer Laude’s friend Barbie, a key witness in the murder case, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday.
Barbie said Pemberton was a little drunk when she brought him and Jennifer from a bar to the Celzone Lodge Motel, where she also checked in.
“Tumagal po ako sa room ng 20 to 30 minutes at kinatok ako ng bellboy,” said Barbie Gelviro, “Ang sabinya, yung kaibigan mo, nahimatay.”
According to the PNP crime laboratory, a used condom was among the pieces of evidence found at the crime scene.
But it’s not yet clear if it was Pemberton’s.
Barbie said Pemberton did not know Jennifer was a transgender woman.
Meanwhile, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, a staunch opponent of the Visiting Forces Agreement, criticized Pemberton’s detention at Camp Aguinaldo.
“I call that VIP treatment,” said Sen. Santiago. “He arrives by helicopter, he is shielded from the reaction of the public to himself. At ang mga guwardiya niya, mga kapanalig niya, mga kababayan niya.”
