LA middle school shooting believed to be accident
LOS ANGELES — Police believe that a Feb. 1 school shooting in Los Angeles Historic Filipinotown that injured five people was an accident.
The 12-year-old female student at Sal Castro Middle School has been charged with negligent discharge of a firearm.
Reports say that the girl told a classmate that the gun accidentally discharged when she dropped her backpack.
Investigators are now trying to see how the girl got the weapon, and how she was able to bring it onto the campus which conducts random weapon searches.
All of the injured which includes four students and faculty member are expected to fully recover.
The incident caused the campus which houses several schools to go on lockdown for a few hours.
After the campus was deemed safe, classes resumed.
