REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Thursday night’s National Basketball Association draft ushers in a new generation of professional basketball stars, and some Filipino Americans among those drafted and invited this year.

With the 46th pick in the NBA draft, the Washington Wizards selected former Missouri State guard Jordan Clarkson. Then shortly after he was selected, Clarkson was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 6-foot 5-inch Clarkson’s mother is Filipina and had been in touch with the Philippines’ national basketball team as recent as two years ago.

Another Filipino will also get a chance to get into the NBA through the summer league. Point guard Stephen Holt of St. Mary’s College has been invited to join the Atlanta Hawks on their summer league team.

In the meantime, according to sources, Philippine college basketball’s most valuable player Bobby Ray Parks Jr. will be playing in the competitive semi-pro summer basketball Drew League based in Los Angeles.

Why is it a big deal about a boy is half Filipino and is going to play basketball maybe in the NBA? It should be a big deal if he is full blood Filipino from the Philippines than you can talk about it big time. So please don’t try to make something out of nothing? OK
