Monday marks Philippine Independence Day, and in Los Angeles, the PH Consulate marked the occasion with prayers and a fashion party.
The Consulate marked the 119th Philippine Independence Day with prayers and a moment of silence for the victims of violence in the Philippines, and throughout the world.
“To honor the innocent victims of Marawi City, members of the Philippine military who sacrificed their lives in their service for our country, the tragic deaths of dozens of people in Resorts World attack in Manila and the senseless deaths of many innocent people all over the world — as a result of violence and terrorism perpetrated by misguided enemies,” said Consul General Adelio Cruz.
With the consulates from other ASEAN countries, city officials, and community leaders, Cruz shared this year’s Kalayaan theme and message from President Rodrigo Duterte, to be united for change.
“It is not only a civic duty, but a solemn obligation of every Filipino regardless of where they are all over the world, to share their knowledge and wisdom in the continued development of our motherland.”
While the simple event showcased Filipino unit, culture, food, and drinks.
It got lively with a fashion show, from celebrity designer Pia Gladys Perey.
