SAN DIEGO, CA — The convicted killer of a 92-yr-old Filipina was sentenced this week to 31 years to life in prison.
27-yr-old Peter Thao entered a guilty plea in June to the charges of first-degree murder and residential burglary in the death of Maria Consuelo Rivera of National City.
According to reports, Thao was arrested last November, a few weeks after Rivera’s body was found in her apartment by her daughter.
Tao reportedly robbed and beat Rivera to death after following her home from a nearby casino.
Before immigrating to the US 40 years ago, Rivera lived in Baguio where she launched several businesses.
Reporters say she was well known in National City’s Filipino American community.
Thao’s sentence, which was handed down on Monday, includes a minimum of 25 year’s for first degree murder, plus 6 years for burglary.
