SAN FRANCISCO – Now on its 22nd year, the Pistahan Parade and Festival took over downtown San Francisco over the weekend by celebrating the very best in Filipino culture and tradition.
Organized by the Filipino American Arts Exposition the Pistahan theme was “Home Away from Home” and kababayans certainly were reminded of the Philippines in the different displays of the culture.
The Pistahan kicked off with a parade through downtown San Francisco with colorful floats and attractions like ati-atihan dancers and giant puppets called gigantes.
The festival was held at the Yerba Buena Gardens where people were treated to all things Filipino from clothing, dancing, and food.
The event drew about 75,000 people each day which include many first-time Filipino and non-Filipino attendees.
Kapamilya stars Geneva Cruz, Matteo Guidicelli, and Morissette Amon as well as music prodigy Matthew John Ignacio closed out the weekend performing on the main stage during the TFC hour on Sunday.
And the performers were just as excited to be in San Francisco and perform for their kababayans.
“First of all thank you so much Kapmilya,” said Guidicelli. “We are here with you even though you are away from the Philippines we’re going to bring home to you and as long as you’re Filipino, galling na Pilipino! God bless!”
“And just to add thank you once again thank you having us and thank you TFC for bringing us over and we’re excited to meet all of you,” said Amon.
