SAN MATEO, CA — About 100,200 participants kicked off The Filipino Channel’s — “TIKIM Filipino Food Fun Run” — a 5K around the scenic Coyote Point recreation area in San Mateo.
And keeping with the theme, runners were able to try different Filipino foods at each kilometer checkpoint.
Joining in on the run were some of the most recognizable faces of the Philippine entertainment — kapamilya stars Inigo Pascual, Jake Cuenca, and Kim Chiu — along with Star Patrol anchor Gretchen Fullido.
The SF Philippine Consulate General Henry Bensurto was also in full support; from hosting a press conference a day before, to having maximum attendance on Sunday’s big event.
TIKIM Fun Run participants were also treated to live entertainment from the kapamilya stars, and various activities throughout the day such as adobo cooking contest and the balut-eating contest.
There were also various vendors showcasing Filipino food, products and services.
“I love that they brought their families with them. I love how Filipinos are very family oriented. And this is a way we can bond for Mother’s Day through this event, and it’s nice because it’s a Filipino community and not just that, I see foreigners as well,” said Inigo Pascual. “Which is super cool, so we able to share our culture through this event.”
TFC hopes to replicate this one-of-a-kind food fun run experience in other parts of the US and the world.
