Kaliwa DC restaurant earns Michelin Guide distinction
WASHINGTON DC — When customers at this restaurant say eating at Kaliwa in DC is a culinary journey, their claim is now backed by the world’s leading restaurant reviewer – the Michelin Guide.
Just to be listed in the 2019 Washington DC Michelin Guide is a sign that Kaliwa serves great food, made with quality ingredients.
The guide says a dinner at Kaliwa is a true feast, about as delicious as can be imagined outside of a journey across the world.
Kaliwa is only 7 months old. Fil-Am co-owner Meshelle Armstrong says the Michelin Guide’s recommendation was a welcome, but unexpected honor.
Today, to be included in the guide means a restaurant has been secretly visited by anonymous Michelin inspectors, and passed the taste test when it comes to mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, as well as value for money and consistency between visits.
So far the only other Filipino restaurant recognized by Michelin is Bad Saint, with a distinction of Bib Gourmand – meaning it offers exceptionally good food at moderate prices.
“We just try to use the best ingredients available from our farmers, our markets, we try to stay true to the flavors but then we use the produce that is available in our area.”
