REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – If you’re celebrating the 4th of July weekend, you’ll probably find the festivities will take a bigger bite out of your wallets this year.
An American Farm Bureau Federation survey finds the cost of a party for 10 is up about five percent over last year to $58.72 because of the rising cost of meat.
According to AAA, gas prices are up too.
Drivers will pay the highest 4th of July prices at the pump since 2008 and an average of 20 cents more per gallon than last year. That’s largely due to market fears over the violence in Iraq.
Still, Americans seem ready to celebrate.
In a survey by the national retail federation, more than 70 percent of consumers said higher prices won’t impact their holiday fun, expected to reach $6.2 dollars.
