NEW YORK CITY — American rock band Journey is among of this year’s fresh inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Other Hall of Famers include Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes, ELO, Joan Baez, and Nile Rodgers.
The biggest question among Hall of Fame fans is: will Journey’s classic lead vocalist Steve Perry reunite with the band one last time?
“I’m so excited for the guys, kasi they will be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” said the band’s current frontman, Arnel Pineda.
Pineda is not among the inductees, but the Pinoy singer will be performing three songs in what could be an epic night of performances at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Friday night.
“Unfortunately kasi, Steve Perry won’t be able to sing,” Pineda said. “I was put to the task na on that position.”
Pineda marks his tenth year performing for Journey fans — another milestone in his career as the band’s frontman.
“God has been really good,” he says. “It’s been such a blessed ten years for me and for the band, and we’re going strong.”
Pineda, who arrived in New York Wednesday, says he will be rocking three of Journey’s favorite songs.
As he takes the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, he has only one thing in mind…
“Dala ko ang bandera ng Pilipinas everytime, I go up on stage so san man ako mapunta, sa Europa man, dito man sa America, o sa Asia man, yung bandera ng Pilipinas, and being their kababayan yun ang palagi kong nirerepresent.”
In a span of ten years, Pineda’s life will never be the same again.
“25 years before Neal Schon found me, lahat ng mga rejection, mga frustration, mga desperation, naranasan ko yan yung magutom, yung tumira ka sa kalye, regardless, kahit anong hirap dun ako naglean eh sa talent ko.”
His life changing success can be summed up by a Journey anthem that he never fails to sing at almost every Journey concert.
“Ako, I never stopped believing in myself,” he shared. “Hindi ako tumigil eh, ito lang yung alam ko… huwag kang papatalo, lumaban ka, maging matapang ka.”
Pineda will continue his tour with Journey, a gig at the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas starting may 3, and will be back in New York July 30 for a show with Fleetwood Mac, and Earth Wind and Fire.
The Hall of Fame will be recorded April 7, but will air on HBO on April 29.
