Jose Antonio Vargas’ new book paints a picture of U.S. immigration today
It’s a big week for Pulitzer-prize winning Filipino journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, known widely as the most high profile undocumented immigrant in the United States.
This week, Vargas released his new book titled “Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen.”
“Dear America” is Vargas’s memoir that dives deep into his experience as an undocumented immigrant having come to the U.S. as a child unknowingly using documents that were faked by his grandfather.
In 2011, Vargas came out publicly as an undocumented immigrant in an article published in New York Times magazine.
In the book, Vargas also paints a picture of the complexities of U.S. immigration, and how the attempts of past presidents to address immigration issues have led to the broken system the country is grappling with today.
Vargas is currently on tour across the country for “Dear America.”
