Jordan Clarkson congratulates Gilas as he holds fundraiser at Pinoy church
WALNUT, CA — It was lots of selfies and smiles at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, as FilAm Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson held a meet and greet, dishing out raffle prizes.
“It’s fun definitely coming out here on a Saturday just spend some time out here,” said Clarkson.
For the Filipinos who pride themselves as being the only full San Lorenzo parish in the US, they were delighted that Clarkson, whom they consider as a role model, came to visit.
“We’re so excited he’s our favorite basketball player ever,” said Nikki Sibo and Ava David.
The meet and greet was also for a cause.
“The funds are earmarked from the raffle and the ticket sales for the youth fund for San Lorenzo ruiz church. It’s a very good church, not only does it support the community, it also supports less fortunate churches in south central Los Angeles and different places,” said William Byrd, General Manager Victoru Autohaus.
“It’s about the youth. That’s all it’s about at the end of the day. I’m just trying to support them and give back as much as I can,” said Clarkson.
Clarkson met his Filipino fans a few hours after the Philippines brought home the gold at the SEAGames in Malaysia.
Despite his eagerness to return to the Philippines, a trip this offseason is unlikely as he has several more local commitments and the NBA offseason to tend to.
For a few hours Jordan was all smiles with his Filipino fans, but in the coming weeks, things are about to get more serious as the Lakers begin training camp and get ready for the upcoming season.
