Jordan Clarkson and Erik Spoelstra: Fil-Ams can shape the NBA playoffs
LOS ANGELES — Now that the All-Star break is over and there are about thirty games left this season of the NBA, it’s the final push for the Playoffs.
While the defending champion Golden State Warriors are among the favored teams in the West, along with Oklahoma City and Houston, the Utah Jazz and their recently crowned slam dunk champion are among the hottest.
The Eastern conference may come down to a couple of Pinoys.
A coach of the year finalist last season, Fil-Am Erik Spoelstra has been leading a resilient Miami Heat team. His players often speak highly of him.
“Coach Spo is an amazing leader, he knows how to motivate guys, he knows how to get the best out of you. Not only that, he encourages you and gives you the confidence to work really hard,” said Wayne Wellington.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are now riding the NBA’s lone Fil-Am player, Jordan Clarkson, whom they acquired at the trade deadline.
Jordan Clarkson is a selfless player and kind of has that swagger about him where he doesn’t care if he starts comes off the bench he goes out there and gives you 20 point,” said Kevin Love.
While some teams are now gearing up for the playoffs some have focused their game plans towards free agency, the most talked about free agent destination is Clarkson’s former team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Pinoy fans are hoping that some of the best players in the league will bring their talents to Hollywood next year.
But as they wait for the stars to hit the market, Pinoy laker fans are optimistic about Clarkson’s success.
He’s going to get a ring now this time. He’s better off in Cleveland,” said Robert Flores.
“It’s better for his career. We are the bottom right now; with him going to Cleveland he’s going to get a lot more exposure, big time moments, big time games, so we’re very happy for him,” said Toot Tiki.
