TORRANCE, CA — The champ is here in the U.S., ready to defend his IBF world title for the 8th time.
Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas will face Jonathan Javier Rodriguez on November 2nd in Carson, California.
“Sobrang excited po quasi yun nga marami daw po Pilipino dito sa los Angeles tapos sana po manood sila laban ko po. Excited very excited na ako po.”
Ancajas arrived in Southern California last week, and has since acclimated. He’s also had extra preparations for his defensive fight, which was originally scheduled for October.
With fight night a little more than week away, Ancajas sparred 4 rounds on Thursday at the Boxing Factory in Torrance California, a few miles away from Carson.
“Na move yung laban so tumaas ng preparation, maganda naman yang preparation.”
After making his US debut in 2018 the 27-year-old has fought in Fresno, Stockton, and Oakland, but this will be the first time he’s fighting in Los Angeles. The venue; Carson’s Dignity Health Park, formerly the Stub Hub center has seen Pinoy world Champions like Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes successfully defend their titles.
“I hope the luck continues for the Filipino fighters who fight here.”
For the 24-year old Rodriguez who has a 21 win and 1 loss record, it will be his first time fighting outside of his native Mexico.
Before the faces off with Jonathan Rodriguez next week, the “pretty boy” fill go face to face with the Filipino community when he makes an appearance at the Larry Itliong celebration at Carson’s Veterans Park this weekend.
