Jersey City community celebrates Philippine Independence Day with culture, dance, and Kim Chiu

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A show of cultural dances and beauty queens along Westside Avenue in Jersey City on Sunday during the 28th Philippine Independence Day parade, organized by the Philippine American Friendship Committee.

Returning this year is a crowd favorite, a dance prayer that honors Sto. Nino.

They also gave honor and saluted the only Filipino WWII residing in Jersey City.

Activists and political supporters also made their presence known.

Spectators managed to cross barricades once they saw a glimpse of the main attraction, one of ABS-CBN’s biggest kapamilya stars, Kim Chiu.

“Once again, TFC gave us the performer that people are really looking for,” said Lito Pernia, PAFCOM president.

Chiu continued to thrill the crowd during her performances, engaging with many fans who waited hours under the hot sun.

Meanwhile, fans in Hawaii will get a chance to see this crowd favorite this weekend for the ASAP in Honolulu show on Saturday.
