Inside the Syria situation and U.S. troops withdrawal fallout

It has been a fiery week on Capitol Hill, with hearings and depositions before House Democratic committees on the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump and the fallout and outrage over Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northeastern Syria.

The one feeling the pressure from all ends, even from many Republicans, is the Commander in Chief himself.

On Thursday, after meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, vice president Mike Pence announced that Turkey had agreed on a five-day cease-fire, in turn, there will be no further U.S. sanctions on Turkey.

But it does not reverse the president’s decision to withdraw U.S. protection in Syria.

On Wednesday, 354 House members, including 129 Republicans, overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan resolution condemning Trump’s decision to withdraw protection from Syria’s Kurds, which allowed Turkey to move its troops and fight Kurdish militias.

The bipartisan rebuke happened right before democratic leadership met with Trump and administration officials in the White House to talk about Syria policy.

“GOP lawmakers from the south and midwestern parts of the united states seem pretty split on President Trump’s recent decision to pull U.S. forces out of Syria, and few have voiced public opposition to the move. however, some officials like Arkansas senator tom cotton has expressed concerns about the troop withdrawal, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee tweeted that the Kurds have been faithful U.S. allies and it would be a huge mistake to abandon them now in time of need,” said Joshua Ang Price.
