LAS VEGAS – Dickson Daggi is a Fil-Am U.S. army specialist who was deployed to Iraq. He joined the military in 2004. After 5 years of service, Dickson came home injured and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. He’s been on disability since arriving from his tour of duty.
“My wife my family are here they help me with my PTSD will all the anxieties and stuff,” Daggi said. “The VA were all the way it just takes a long process but they’re there.”
Daggi was also overjoyed when he got some much needed help from concerned people in America.
Through people’s donations to the nonprofit organization Military Warriors Support Foundation, his family received a mortgage free-house.
“It’s a life changer financially, mentally we can do whatever because it’s ours,” Daggi said. “You can do whatever. This is ours. We can actually call it home. It’s really good for veterans that are wounded. It’ll help them financially to have family in the future.”
The four bedroom and 1,800 square foot house in North Las Vegas is now the new residence of the Daggi’s.
The Military Warriors Support Foundation awards mortgage-free homes to wounded heroes injured during combat in service to America.
In addition to the home, the families will receive three years of family and financial mentoring.
“Dont give up on hope there’s people out there who helped,” Daggi said. “Don’t separate yourself. I am a veteran too. Most of us separate ourselves from the system. G0etting in the system is the way to go. Having guidance with the VA, work with your social worker, they’ll guide you all the way.”
“Because of the recognition that they give to him as a soldier, as a soldier wounded in war,” Daggi’s wife Nikki said. “It’s a big recognition. We are just very grateful just for them to look out to veterans who try to make it day by day, to get on their feet, and start anew coming from a war and going to a normal life.”
The Daggi’s are not only excited with their new home but they are thankful for the program that would help Dickson on his journey to recovery in their new sanctuary.
Zip code 89031 has the most number of foreclosures in the United States with the total of 741 filings in 2008.
Homes in this area have a history of shattered dreams during the recession a few years back. But for Nikki and Dickson Daggi the dream of having their own home did come true.
