LOS ANGELES — As players of the LA Clippers warmed up in shirts of the Philippine colors, a Philippine-born, Southern California raised musician was living his childhood dream.
Kapamilya star Inigo Pascual headlined this year’s Filipino American Heritage Night at the Staples Center, as the Clippers hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder.
For Inigo, who grew up in nearby Glendale, performing at the Staples Center is a dream come true.
The 22-year-old rocked the half time show with songs like Dahil Sayo and Catching Feelings, and even gave the crowd a sneak peek of Catching Feelings’ music video on the scoreboard.
“It brought me back to just seeing it for the first time when I was 7 years old and now we’re here I’m 22 and this is crazy that I’m finally able to just be in this place and celebrate being Filipino and of course singing a Tagalog song in the staples center it’s always been a dream of mine to do that I’m just beyond grateful. And taking it all in, the moment that’s been given.“
It was also Fil-Am singer/songwriter Jules Aurora’s fourth time performing at the arena, but she said it’s always special when it’s for this annual event.
“I’ve always wanted to sing at the staples center and to be able to sing at staples center multiple times is just one of my dreams come true its equally amazing to be representing my Filipino culture and its like a double whammy.“
Filipino Heritage Night has become a time-honored tradition for Clipper Nation, and fans are looking forward to a good season for the team, after acquiring stars Khawi Leonard and Paul George.
“It’s special because we’re celebrating our heritage and some of our family members have never been to a game so they’re excited to see Inigo too.”
The Clippers pulled off a gritty 90-88 win over the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder.
“It feels great, supporting Philippines, and supporting Clippers,” said one fan. “They gonna do good this year, they’re gonna mgo all the way.”
After the game, a number of Fil-Am social media influencers took to the court for a pick up basketball game…But, before the tip-off, a wedding proposal from RJ Distrito, son of former PBA player Rudy Distrito.
