Widodo: Non-claimant countries stay out of West PH Sea dispute

MANILA – The Philippines is gravitating toward the US in the West Philippine Sea dispute but Indonesia does not see that as a solution to the maritime rift between the Philippines, China and other claimant countries.

DFA Secretary Albert Del Rosario had been quoted as saying the US plans to send more Navy and Air Force assets to the region.

President Noynoy Aquino is also set to rally support from Asean countries against China’s reclamation activities next week.

But this early, Indonesian President, Joko Widodo stresses non-claimant countries should not intervene and that military force is not the answer to the dispute.

But Philippine officials are becoming more and more concerned with the scope and extent of China’s reclamation and creation of islands in the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Armed Forces just released photos that show China’s activities there such as these ones on Gaven reef, Kennan reef and Fiery Cross reef.

Philippine officials say the reclamation of these disputed territories are happening at a very fast pace.
