In Illinois, 5-year old Fil-Am dies from flu-related illness

A Filipino family from Carpentersville, Illinois is in mourning after their 5-year old daughter passed away due to influenza, the flu.

The Kane County health department confirmed Wednesday that a pediatric flu-related death took place there last week, and the parents of Mia Lobo confirmed it was their daughter.

Dominic and Apple Lobo told the media that their daughter suffered from fever-related seizures.

On his Facebook page, Dominic said, “Keep her in your prayers. My heart hurts so much right now.”

Once confirmed by Illinois health officials, Mia’s death will be the ninth flu-related pediatric death in the state.

Every year, seasonal influenza leads to the death of up to 56,000 deaths and up to 700,000 hospitalizations.
