LOS ANGELES – American Idol Season 11 contestant Colton Dixon is busy rehearsing for his upcoming Valentine’s concert with Filipino-
American singer and American Idol Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez, which will be held in the Philippines on February 14 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Colton said he enjoyed his first visit to Manila last September. Of the food in the Philippines, he said, “I definitely did not try the ‘balut’ (boiled fertilized egg). But I tried puto bungbong (delicacy made from sticky rice).”
Jessica and Colton were standout Idol talents last season and both received recording contracts after the show. Colton’s recently released debut album, “A Messenger” contains inspirational songs. His single, “You Are” is already a hit.
Apart from music, the singer said he feels connected to his Filipino fans because many of them share his Christian beliefs. He shared,
“At a mall appearance for the Idol tour, so many of the fans that we met, I was able to connect to them on that level. It’s really an encouragement to me because I didn’t know what to expect going to a foreign country. It was awesome to see that the Word is really working there… that He is alive there.”
Despite his hectic schedule, Colton finds time to watch Idol, especially because his sister Schyler made it to Hollywood week. He said he could see the changes in the popular reality show this year.
He said, “I’m very glad I had Jennifer (Lopez), Steven (Tyler) and Randy (Jackson) as my judges. Nicki Minaj intimidates me still, as she does so to so many people. I don’t know. It’s just a different chemistry going on.”
