ICE raids dozens of 7-Eleven stores to open employment audits, interview workers
While lawmakers discuss ways to address the country’s problematic immigration system, the Trump administration conducted its largest operation against an employer.
Today, US immigration agents targeted about a hundred 7-Eleven stores nationwide — and before dawn, raided dozens of branches to open employment audits and interview workers suspected of working in the US illegally.
This is a development to a probe against 7-Eleven that began in 2013 when a number of Long Island and Virginia branches were raided for hiring immigrants from the Philippines and Pakistan — who did not have proper work authorization.
The Trump administration has increased its deportation arrests by 40 percent, and has pressed for a tougher stance on employers.
