PENSACOLA, FL — Two weeks after Hurricane Michael slammed the Florida panhandle, and residents are starting to rebuild any damage, recovering properties that they can still use.

Most are dealing with filing insurance claims.

According to the Florida office of Insurance Regulation, nearly 100,000 claims have been submitted for Hurricane Michael damage, with an estimated $1.25 billion in insured losses.

But some are still clueless on how to process their insurance claims.

Betchu Serwit, an expert in insurance policy, said that consumers should seek for insurance coverage on important aspects.

While homeowners are required to purchase insurance as part of the mortgage process, Serwit advised residents to get insurance coverage even if their house is fully paid.
