Golden Boy holds media workout for Pinoy fighters

A Cebuano fighter with a second chance at a world title, an up-and-coming prospect from Tagum City, looking to continue climbing the ranks.

Golden Boy put their two Filipino fighters Mercito Gesta and Romero Duno on display for a media workout, ahead of their January 27th event at the Los Angeles Forum.

“Excited kasi dalawang Filipino na mag rerepresenta sa Pilipinas Bay tsaka si Duno. Believe ako si Duno malakas,” said Gesta.

The Freddie Roach-trained Gesta will take on champion Jorge Linares for his three lightweight world titles as a co-main event.

Linares has been training in Las Vegas. While he does show some of his workouts, he’s also been showing hints that he may be taking Gesta lightly from calling out Vassyl Lomachenko in Twitter to a post of him playing video games.

“Sa akin maganda yun. That’s good that he’s overlooking me hindi naman sya serious Alam nya Title ito. Ako I’m hungry for this title. Pag hindi sya serioso sa laban nito at ineoverlook nya ako. He’ll pay the price. As a challenger, I’m hungrier.”

While one Filipino looks to finally get his hands on the world title in the main event, the undercard features a Filipino prospect looking to continue his path towards the same goal.

Romero Duno was signed by Golden Boy last year and also hopes to get his shot at a world title.

Duno, who also trains at the wild card gym under Rodel Mayol gets an 8-round test against Mexican slugger, Yardley Suarez.

“Medjo kinakabahan parin. Hindi naman wawala yun pero ok lang kasi nag ensayo na kami Gagawin ko Lahat May pakita Yung ine expect Nila.”

The 22-year old lightweight has a 15-and-1 record which includes 13 knockouts, while Suarez has a 20-and-7 record.
