Gina Ortiz Jones highlights DACA program, Dreamers’ struggles and achievements in virtual town hall

TEXAS — About 650,000 young undocumented immigrants who have been spared from deportation under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, have been anxiously awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision or keep president Barack Obama’s legacy of giving them a shot at the American dream.

Since the beginning of his presidency, the Trump administration has attacked DACA – the Dreamer community.

Fil-Am Democratic candidate Gina Ortiz Jones, who is running for a seat in the 23rd congressional district of Texas, gave three DACA recipients a spotlight in her weekly virtual town hall via Zoom.

“I’m not a Dreamer, but I think I know what it feels like to have worked hard for something and then live in fear that it could be taken away from you.”

For these Dreamers, the virtual town hall gave them a platform not only to speak up on their fears and struggles, but to rally support for DACA.

Jones said there is a moral argument to be made here and that the U.S. government should keep its promise to DACA recipients, who willingly gave up sensitive personal information to apply for the program.

“The minute you start breaking the promises., negotiating and backtracking, you lose not only the trust of DACA recipients, but you also lose the trust of other vulnerable communities.”

Jones said it would be short-sighted to take away protections for Dreamers.

But come judgment day, it will all come down to a 5-4 conservative majority, which includes two justices appointed by Trump.

Correct 5-4 CONSERVATIVE majority on the Supreme Court for the next 35 yrs, Justice Gorsuch, 52 yrs old. Jus.GINSBURG, 87 yrs, a LIBERAL, will retire anytime, SupCourt will be 6-3, CONSERVATIVE majority for the next 60-70 years. DACA is an executive order signed by OBAMA, Trump just signed an Exec Order on Police reform, it is unconstitutional, it needs House & Senate approval. Trump Police reform is temporary, DACA exec order only effective when Obama was the President, now DACA recipients can be deported anytime. 2020 election is the last hope, for the DEMS Party, if BIDEN wins, they will increase the SupCourt from 9 Justices to 11, and Jus Ginsberg will only retire after the election. Dems should win both House and Senate, which is impossible, they might lose everything, people are fed up with rioting, the Dems in cahoots with BLM, Antifa instead of siding with the Police. Voters are smart they want safety, they hate Sanctuary City, they love the Border Wall, wanted good economy, tell me how could they beat TRUMP.
