The pageant opened with a glittery number with all 90 candidates, Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados was unique in a lavender Sherri Hill outfit.
Steve Harvey hosted the show for the 5th year.
The top 20 were immediately announced at the top of the show — 5 from the Asia Africa region, 5 from Europe, 5 from the Americas and the last 5 from any region, which included Miss Philippines Gazini.
“The world is aging, and my grandparents raised me. I worked in an organization that was supporting elderly care. I learned… I realized that there’s this stigma between ageism, poverty, exclusivity, and invincibility. It is rightful for us to remember that they were the ones who paved the way for us. We should reciprocrate that love, and no one should be ever left behind. Thank you.”
Catriona Gray was emotional at her final walk thanking everyone who made her reign special.
“To my fellow Filipinos, thank you so much for all your support. To all Cebuanos, thank you so much. This experience has been so fun even though it only lasted 10 days. I know I did my best. I changed outfits four times a day.”
The winners were second runner up Mexico, 1st runner up Puerto Rico, and the new reigning Miss Universe, 26-year-old Miss South Africa Zuzibini Tunzi.
Filipinos in Atlanta waited for Gazini to let her know how proud they were to support her fight.
Gazini will remain the U.S. for a few days and celebrate her birthday before going back to the Philippines.
