DALY CITY, CA — An afternoon that featured various tables of Filipino organizations and resources, a place to buy Filipino apparel and accessories, and a stage full of musical talents.
This is Kasayahan sa Daly City — the fourth annual celebration of Filipino American History Month put on in conjunction with Daly City and The Filipino Channel.
Highlighting the event were Filipino Americans who found their own way of success in the music industry.
Singer/songwriter Gabe Bondoc was the first to perform.
Bondoc became one of the first to explode on the YouTube scene back in 2006 — which led to his career as an independent musician, touring the U.S. and the world.
Bondoc said his authenticity is what keeps him successful.
“At least I believe that I loved what I did and so much that even if you don’t know me, even if you don’t know this song, even if you don’t like this song, you’re gonna see that I love it, and I think that’s what people have been able to latch on to is the passion for the art.”
The pop girl group of the 2000s, One Voice — reunited earlier this year, and has started creating new music for their fans.
Once a group of five — the now trio of Mae Ceralvo, Marie Ceralvo and Monica Castillo are working on their fourth album due for release this year.
“We’re exploring different ways to present ourselves on stage; different acts, different band members and to change our show up to be different than what we were, just to show how we’ve progressed as artists.”
“We work really well together. We, again, have that chemistry. We’ve known each other for years and I think, you know, we’re women now. We know what we want. We know the sound that we want.”
Meanwhile. Bondoc has a new EP entitled “One”, available on all streaming platforms.
One Voice will be having a performance in Suisun City on Saturday, October 19th.
