VIRGINIA — A Filipino former elected official gets 2-and-a-half years in jail for committing federal fraud while in office.
Court documents show that Ron Villanueva conspired with two companies in a 9-year scheme involving more than $80 million in fraudulently obtained government contracts, to which he and an immediate family member earned over a million dollars.
Villanueva was given 45 days to self-report either to the federal courthouse or to a prison, still to be determined.
Villanueva was the first Filipino-American elected to Virginia state government. He served in Virginia’s House of Delegates from 2010-2018.
In this report, Monica Gallozo tells us more about the sentencing of former Virginia delegate.
