REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Juan Flavier, the former Philippine Senator and Health Secretary, died of multiple organ failure and pneumonia Thursday.
Flavier, who endeared people with his simple and humble ways, was known for his “Yosi Kadiri” or anti-smoking campaign.
He also started a massive immunization program to prevent diseases, and called on doctors to serve poor rural communities.
Among those who visited Flavier’s wake at the University of The Philippines in Diliman were Former President Fidel Ramos and President Noynoy Aquino.
Flavier was 79-years-old.
