Former champ Marlon Tapales scores 5th round KO in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — Some boxing action in downtown Los Angeles as another Manny Pacquiao promoted fighter scored a big late night knockout victory.

It was past 11pm, the TV crews were gone, and only a few Filipinos stayed at the Microsoft Theater to watch Marlon “The Nightmare” Tapales end a full day of Premier Boxing Champions action with a knockout victory.

“Tuwa tuwa ko kasi na knock out ko ang kalaban and nag papasalamat ako sa Pilipino at sa managers ko.”

Despite the late night fight, Tapales knew from the beginning that he could finish the fight early.

He dropped opponent Fernando Vargas to end the 5th round. The Mexican never came out for the 6th.

The former world champion, who only lost his bantamweight title after failing to make weight, says despite this big win he plans on staying stateside as he works his way back into contention.

“Gusto ko mag ensayo pa sabi ni coach rodel kulang pa daw ko kun ang gusto ko i pupusan ang kuling ko daw po… Nag papasalamat ako sa pinot dito. Sobrang supportive kahit na mga alas doce na gabi pero marami parin mga Pilipino.”

The 25 year old Tapales’ record now stands at 32-wins and 2 losses.

The late night knockout marks his 6th straight stoppage.

Tapales former champion, lost his title due to overweight. He should had been making good income by now, but he lack discipline and I also blame his former Trainer and manager. He was given a second chance by MP Promotion, at least he has a better future than ALA boxers. Donie Nietes, the milking cow, of ALA gym is waiting for another championship fight, but does not want to have a mandatory return bout against Palicte.
