MIAMI, FL — Florida voters cast their ballots on Tuesday’s primary – despite coronavirus concerns, and some poll watchers dropping out of their designated precincts.

And while Election Day turnout in the Sunshine state dropped significantly from 2016 — more Democratic voters cast their ballots by mail, beating 2016 numbers.

“In the middle of this crisis, we know that elections still matter. We will depend on leaders who will guide us so we know what we can do so we can save lives,” said Dr. Jennifer Zimmerman.

Most of the Democratic votes went to former Vice President Joe Biden, who beat Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders by nearly 40 percentage points: a big win for Biden in the country’s third-most populous state and an important general election battleground.
