TAMPA, FL – From being a Philippine fiesta performer in Florida to an American Idol Hollywood Week finalist in California, Vanessa Quillao, a Fil-Am viral video sensation with more than 3 million views on her Youtube channel, is on her way to become a recording star in the Philippines.
Quillao recently signed up as one of ABS-CBN Star Records’ newest recording artist.
Her first single is a revival of the Philippine “Queen of Soul,” Ella Mae Saison’s “’Till My Heartaches End.”
The single is now a popular download on iTunes and Google Play.
“It’s my dream that I always wanted, of course. I’m always singing here at the PhilFest since I was younger and now being able to finally say I’m signed to the biggest label of the Philippines, I just feel so blessed and happy for this opportunity,” she said.
Quillao started singing when she was five.
At 16, she became the first ever winner of Disney World’s American Idol Experience Dream Ticket to Hollywood.
Quillao said, “My favorite past idol would have to be Jessica Sanchez because she’s also Filipino-mixed. I think she did a great job representing for us Filipinos.”
She then competed and won the People’s Choice award for DZMM’s Global Pinoy Idol in 2014.
Quiallao says a performance in Manila got her the chance of lifetime.
“I sang at the DZMM’s anniversary party over there and Ma’am Charo Santos was there. She heard me sing and there was a lucky chance, I feel like. From there she told Star Records to work with me,” she said.
Quillao is now part of a compilation album called “OPM Fresh” – Star Music’s platform for new artists to shine.
“I want to bring something different to the Filipino music industry. I want to bring that American flair to the Philippines,” she said.
Quillao, who is now in the Philippines promoting her new single, says she is also excited to record a duet with her idol Jed Madela soon.
