Last Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Nonato became the first Filipino ever appointed as commanding officer to the Royal Regiment of Canada — one of the nation’s oldest and largest army reserves.
On Sunday, Nonato assumed the role during the change of command parade at the Fort York Armoury in Toronto, Ontario.
44-year-old Nonato from Brampton, Ontario is the child of Filipino immigrants, and has served missions in Afghanistan and South Sudan.
