REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Residents of Bakersfield, Calif. who founded an orphanage in the Philippines are calling for public support to help rebuild after a fire destroyed their Angeles City building that housed dozens of orphaned children.
Founders of the Send the Light Orphanage in Angeles City believe the fire started from an electric fan that caught fire and spread.
The orphanage, built from land and funding donated mostly by residents of Bakersfield, housed 44 boys and girls ages 1 to 17, as well as eight staff.
Representatives say the displaced children will be move into a recently constructed girls’ home until the orphanage is rebuilt.
