It’s awards season on the Great White Way, and Filipinos on Broadway are getting the nods.
Filipino-American stage actress Eva Noblezada joins a small circle of Tony award-nominated Filipinos, for her role as Kim in the 2017 Broadway revival of the epic musical Miss Saigon.
Miss Saigon’s original Kim — Lea Salonga — won the Tony Best Actress award in 1991.
Other Filipino Tony award winners include 3-time Tony awardee and Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino, as well as costume designer Clint Ramos.
Noblezada is also nominated for a Drama League Award for her distinguished performance in Miss Saigon.
Miss Saigon is also nominated for a Tony for the best revival of a musical award, as well as an outer critic circle nomination and drama league for outstanding revival of a musical.
Meanwhile, “The Engineer” Jon Jon Briones has been nominated for a Drama Desk award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical.
In off-Broadway awards, Fil-Am actor George Salazar has been nominated for a drama desk award for outstanding featured actor in a musical for his dual role in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
The Drama League Awards will take place on May 19.
The Outer Critics Circle Awards are on May 25.
The Drama Desk Awards are on June 4.
And the 71st annual Tony Awards night will air on June 11, at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
