Filipinos give DMV feedback on licenses for undocumented

LOS ANGELES – A day of questions, comments and concerns as the Department of Motor Vehicles held a six-hour public hearing on AB60, the recently passed legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants in California to drive legally.

The law which was signed last October is scheduled to be implemented this January.

“The community and advocates have proposed recommendations on how to make AB60 more accessible to the community. They’ve been releasing regulations for the past two months, the first draft and second draft. As the community, as folks who are advocates, we are making sure our members and our community members are being heard,” said Anthony Ng of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, a Philippine-born dreamer.

Some conservative speakers continued to challenge the new law.

Representatives from the DMV refused to take those comments, saying the task now is to enforce a law already in the books.

“The legislature made a mistake when it passed AB60. I urge the DMV not to compound that mistake,” said Samuel Han, a representative of Assemblyman Don Wagner, before he was stopped by DMV moderators.

Ng says while the debate continues on how the law will be implemented, Filipinos should be getting the possible documents ready.

As immigrants living in the country illegally, many have difficulty having proof of their identity and homes.

“We’re trying to be creative as possible to what folks can use, whether it’s an expired passport, school IDs, union cards, anything that links to US citizen children. Say your name is on a birth certificate to prove that, to use the birth certificate of your kid as identity because you don’t have access to different forms of identification,” Ng explained.

The DMV also declined to speak about the proposed designs of the licenses which is required by federal officials to be different from regular licenses.

Ng, a beneficiary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, said in most states where DACA recipients are able to drive their licenses look the same, including California.

Illegals and non citizens want to change
The laws for their benefit and not
    For the benefit of Americans

Cheat tips if you cross the border
    Illegally

The sheet obtained by TheBlaze has handwritten notes about the appropriate “yes” or “no” answers to the questions, along with some jotted personal notes on what to say to U.S. authorities. They include, “Who did you live with?” and the answer, “My aunt, but she crossed the border.”

Another handwritten question is, “Where does your father live?” The answer underneath reads, “I don’t know him or even his name.”

Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas, have said most of the illegal immigrants they encounter have the same “rehearsed” answers about having “credible fear” in fleeing their countries so they will not be returned.

Among the printed statements in Spanish on the sheet are:

    • Why did you abandon your country?

    • Because of poverty and misery.

    • You’re in fear of your government and afraid to live in your country.

    • You’re afraid of extortion from Maras [MS-13 gang].

    • Do you have family in the United States?

    • Is this the first time you’ve come into this country?

    • Did you swim across the river?

    • Somebody told you that if you brought a minor child into the United States you can stay.

the DMV is right, enforce the law that’s already in the book. so how come obummer cannot enforce the immigration laws already in the books to topple this state law. californians must not be intimidated by this law favoring illegal aliens, it’s not absolute. the true american californians must fight back on election season to trash this law, send a strong message to politicians voted in power, they must work with true american californians for survival of california, never, ever work with illegal aliens to extinguish mexifornia.
