Filipinos fight for spot on 1st commercial space flight

ORLANDO, Fla – Three Filipino men headed to Axe Apollo Space camp at the Kennedy Space Center arrived Sunday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

Team Philippines composed of Evan Rey Datuin, Ramil Santos, and Chino Roque.

The three young Filipinos are among the 107 contestants from 60 countries vying for a slot on the first commercial flight to outer space in 2014.

After the opening ceremonies Sunday, contestants will be put through rigorous astronaut training, undergo air combat mission, experience weightlessness in a zero gravity flight. They rode a G-force centrifuge at 6-g power yesterday.

Only 22 slots are available and one slot has already been reserved for the first ever Filipino to travel to outer space next year.
