REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Philippine officials say 100 or more Filipino suspects are being linked to a cyber-extortion scam that involves luring men into exposing themselves on a webcam, and then blackmailing them with the video footage for up to $15,000.

The crackdown involved Interpol and police from the United States and three other countries. Authorities say Scotland teenager Daniel Perry committed suicide after being victimized and blackmailed.

The scammers pose as women on Facebook to lure male victims into performing cyber-sex activities. Victims are then blackmailed for money and threatened with the exposure of their lewd acts.

Fifty eight suspects have already been arrested in Manila, including three accused in the scam that led to Daniel Perry’s suicide.

Interpol says there could be hundreds of thousands of victims from all over the world.
