Filipino WWII vet awarded Purple Heart

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Getting recognized for his service to the United States is better late than never for a Filipino World War II veteran.

Bataan Death March survivor Jesse Baltazar, 94, received the Purple Heart last week for shrapnel wounds he suffered in World War II.

Baltazar moved to the US where he became the first Filipino to serve the Air Force Commission.
