Filipino university safety officer stabbed to death in Pomona

POMONA, CALIFORNIA — Tragedy for a Filipino worker at the Cal Poly Pomona University campus.

The city of Claremont has revealed the identity of the university safety officer that was stabbed by an assailant on June 29th.

37-year-old Mark Manlapaz was stabbed to death in his truck at an underdeveloped area of campus.

The assailant was eventually shot to death by a Cal Poly Pomona police officer and a Pomona Police Department officer, at another area of campus.

The identity of the suspect has not been released, and the motive for the stabbing remains unknown.

Manlapaz was a former ranger at the Claremont Wilderness Park.

A vigil was held for him on Thursday night.
