Filipino soldier killed while serving 4th combat deployment in Afghanistan
A Filipino-American soldier, husband, and father of two lost his life while serving on his fourth combat deployment in Afghanistan.
36-year-old staff Sergeant Reymund Rarogal Transfiguracion, a green beret from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, passed away on Sunday from injuries sustained in an explosion in Helmand Province.
Transfiguracion was on patrol last August 7, when he was wounded by an improvised explosive device. He died at a hospital five days later.
Transfiguration was born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte in 1982 and moved to Hawaii in 2001.
He was posthumously promoted to sergeant first class and awarded the Bronze Star medal, the Purple Heart and the Meritorious Service medal.
The incident surrounding his death is still under investigation.
