Filipino man fatally shot at birthday party robbery

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A 25-year-old Filipino man was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Tracy, Calif. during an apparent attempted robbery outside of his home.

Tracy police arrived at 1:20 a.m. Sunday after receiving calls of shots fired.

They found Darell Esguerra lying unconscious on the ground.

Esguerra was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital but was pronounced dead two hours later.

According to reports, there was a family birthday party going on at the home.

Guests began to leave the home around 1 a.m. when a group of armed strangers tried to rob them.

Witnesses say at least 20 bullets were fired toward the house.

One of the bullets hit Esguerra in the back of the head.

Esguerra becomes Tracy’s first homicide victim in nearly two years.

Tracy police do not have anyone in custody at this time.

Meanwhile, the family started an online fundraiser or Esguerra’s funeral arrangements.

    With 20 shots fired, I hope somebody saw the shooters and the car they used. Please help the family identify the killers….
