Filipino fighters featured at San Francisco boxing event

SAN FRANCISCO – Adam “the Filipino Fury” Fiel was dominating his opponent, Jesus Sandoval in the ring.

Sandoval suffered an accidental head-butt moments before the end of the first round which led to the referee stopping the fight with a no-decision call.

“It is what it is,” said Fiel. “The referee called it. You got to respect what the judge’s decision was. They do the best they can. I thought I was going to have early knockout. I was catching him with some really good shots in the early in the beginning.”

Fiel was the co-main event of “Friday Night Fights at the Hilltop”, held at the University of San Francisco.

This event featured Filipino and Filipino-Americans fighters looking to make a name for themselves like former member of the Philippine National team Alice Kate Appari who flew in from the Philippines for a match.

Despite losing Oakland’s Dalia Gomez Valenzuela, Appari still has high hopes for her future matches.

“It’s a different feeling when I’m in the ring that’s why I’m a little careful,” said Appari. “I’ll be ready, for sure, for the next fight.”

Multi-kickboxing champion Katrina “the Storm” Nahe also took a loss against UCLA’s Elizabeth Pratt.

Despite the outcome of these fights, their supporters hope that they can follow in the path laid out by Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire, Jr.

“You got to have that determination,” said boxing aficionado and author of ‘From Pancho to Pacquiao’ Jay Gonzalez. “The same one that they have coming from the gut that will make into the fighter of the future.”

And the fighters themselves say they are ready to honor their idols on their quests for glory.

“It’s really great we’re getting some attention, well-deserved,” said Fiel. “I’m not going be able to fill his shoes but I’m going to do my best to fill the shoes that I’m in.”

These Pinoy boxers just want your money…just like Pacquiao ripped off many Pinoys during his fight with Mayweather…instead of wasting your time and money, you can go to Isla or Islands Garden restaurants and enjoy the food there…
